Why Solicitors Rely On Us
Trusted by thousands of solicitors across the UK
RentalBux finally gave me peace of mind.
Even after trying several tools, I was struggling with my portfolio of three rentals. MTD just added to that struggle. But then, I was introduced and all my worries disappeared. MTD submissions in minutes, track each property separately, allocate profit sharing. Wow!
Built for landlords, used by landlords.
As a landlord managing 12 units across two ownership structures and some self-employment income, I needed something that handled everything. RentalBux was the only software that did that.
Time saved.
Switching to RentalBux was one of the best decisions I made. Especially the joint-ownership module. Our family property had three owners with different shares, and RentalBux handled it quite efficiently.

Real challenges solicitors & barristers, and how RentalBux solves them
| Real challenges solicitors & barristers face | How RentalBux solves it |
|---|---|
| Billing systems, trust accounts, and case files are separate, nothing talks to each other. | RentalBux integrates all income and expense data into a single digital workspace, reducing admin load. |
| Time spent on bookkeeping reduces billable hours, evenings and weekends spent organising receipts. | Automated receipt capture + bank feeds reduce admin time by significant amount, freeing more time for client work. |
| Difficulty separating client money vs personal income, consultancy income vs chambers earnings. | RentalBux allows multiple business streams to be tracked independently for accurate quarterly MTD reporting. |
| Risk of errors using spreadsheets, missed receipts, incorrect categorisation, duplicated entries. | Built-in checks, smart categorisation, and submission summaries ensure clean data before sending to HMRC. |
| Fear of MTD penalties because digital record-keeping rules are unclear. | MTD guidance built into the workflow: prompts, reminders, deadline alerts, and review checkpoints. |
| Existing accounting tools are designed for general businesses, not legal practices. | RentalBux supports legal-specific workflows, such as categorising indemnity insurance, CPD, chambers rent, etc. |
| Cost barrier of adopting full practice management software just to meet MTD rules. | Affordable pricing with a free plan for single income stream users. |

You must comply with MTD if:
you are self-employed or a sole practitioner, and
your gross legal income (including chambers income, private fees, consultancy work, etc.) exceeds £50,000 from April 2026.
Legal professionals earning below the threshold may join voluntarily for early adoption. There are exemptions for digital exclusion due to age, disability, location, or religious grounds.
Yes, your accountant or tax agent can act on your behalf using MTD-compliant software for solicitors, including digital record-keeping, quarterly submissions, and the year-end final declaration. However, you remain legally responsible for ensuring all MTD.
For each quarter, solicitors must digitally report:
total fee income (client billing, retainers, success fees, chambers income, etc.)
allowable business expenses (practice rent, indemnity insurance, CPD, travel)
categorised digital records based on HMRC-approved chart of accounts
You don’t need to send receipts or invoices, only totals by category.
After the tax year ends, you submit a final declaration under MTD, including all income, expenses, and any allowances or reliefs. The final declaration will replace the current Self-Assessment tax return, as it will include both mandated income (like property income) and non-mandated income (such as dividend and interest income).
Yes. Many solicitors own investment property or earn income outside their legal practice. RentalBux tracks and reports each income stream separately legal income and rental income as per MTD regime.
